Eunice Levis
Tell us about yourself
My name is Eunice Levis. I am a writer and director, from the Bronx, New York. I’m also a first-generation Dominican American. I use horror, sci-fi, and fantasy to disrupt dominant narratives around technology, age, race, gender, history, and diaspora identity. I’m also a film department adjunct professor, and I cohost Café Negro con Genre, a podcast that promotes creatives working in the genre space.
¿Que es la que? What is happening?
Bueno, currently I’m in post production with two shorts. “Affordable Housing”, a campy mixed media horror short written by Wi-Moto Nyoka and directed by yours
truly. And “Keep”, an urban gothic horror, which I wrote and directed. I recently participated in the 2024 NALIP Latino Media Accelerator with the pilot script to my latest series, “In the air”. “In the air” is an environmental sci-fi series set in a near future Philadelphia. l am also about to launch a fundraiser for my next film “Animal”. Animal is an environmental creature horror set in present day, North Philadelphia. It follows two siblings who discover toxic waste at a construction site and later face off against the monstrous result - a genetically altered rat.The screenplay recently won a development grant from Independence Public Media Foundation and also won, the Best Stage Reading award at Essence Film Festival. We are so excited to bring the story to life, we just need a little help getting there.
What do you want audiences to know about your work?
I will always use my work to provide visibility. It may include the use of possessed animals or zombies, but it will provide visibility!
What are you listening to right now?
Lately I’ve been feeling nostalgic so naturally I’m listening to a lot of Cafe Tacvba, Fernandito Villalona and The Police.
