Meet GUSTO, AFROTAINO’s arm for exclusive Latinx gastronomic experiences. GUSTO was birthed as a benefit for Puerto Rico following the devastating Hurricane Maria that hit the island in September 2017.

GUSTO is an effort focused on contributing to projects addressing the long-term needs of Puerto Rico as a result of the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Maria. GUSTO supports creative and grassroots organizations on the frontline working to empower communities to rebuild the island – with a focus on self determination and sustainability. GUSTO beneficiaries to date Taller Salud ,Defend Puerto Rico , Taller Puertorriqueño and Los Bomberos de la Calle

Since it’s inception, GUSTO has presented a series of events celebrating Philadelphia’s vast Latinx culinary community, spotlighting delicious flavors and food traditions from Latin America and the Caribbean. GUSTO events highlight Latinx culinary artists and some of the best restaurants and bars the city has to offer.

Past events include:

  • Bad Bunny Brunches in collaboration with El Merkury, La Chingonita, Mural City Cellars, Taller Puertorriqueño and Norris Square Neighborhood Project.

  • GUSTO Grub Guides and Holiday Guides to spotlight Latinx makers, businesses and restaurants.

  • Puerto Rico’s Earthquakes Relief Pop Up @ South Philly Barbacoa featuring James Beard Award nominee Chef Maria T. Mercedes Grubb from Puerto Rico’s Gallo Negro , co hosted by fellow nominee Chef Cristina Martinez.

  • Garage Fishtown takeovers by Loco Lucho’s Latino Kitchen and Puyero Venezuelan Flavor

  • GUSTO series kickoff with Puerto Rican fare by Loco Lucho’s Latino Kitchen, La Finca Catering and Amy’s Pastelillos and music by Lester Rey at A Seed on Diamond Gallery.
