Cimafunk

Cimafunk is a whole different type of artist. Following in the footsteps of James Brown, Prince, and other nonstop funksters, Cimafunk hits every stage with an energy that endures & exceeds the constraints of exhaustion, time limits, and even crowd capacities. We’ve personally seen it happen with our own eyes: AFROTAINO had the luck & pleasure of presenting his Philadelphia debut, as part of his US debut tour. This same tour took him to the infamous music festival SXSW in Austin, Texas, where our colleague, NPR Alt.Latino creator/host Felix Contreras witnessed the Cimafunk effect in action. Felix’s words, recollecting the wonder in his memory: “His energy & sound was literally pulling people from off the street into the venue.” Fresh from releasing a new single, “Funk Aspirin”, alongside the legendary George Clinton of Parliament-Funkadelic, he hit the road, touring Europe, and is now currently in the US. From the clear, snap-tight communication with his powerhouse band, as they roll out the melaza with uptempo sax vamps & ripping conga funk breaks to deep, hearty (almost gospel-ish) call-and-response party chants that resonate heavily with Afro-Caribbean culture, Cimafunk assures everyone that he has the keys to this ride, and he is behind the wheel of this funky, fantastic voyage.
