Aris Mejias
Tell us about you and your work
My name is Aris Mejias. I am an environmentalist and science geek at heart. I have been a professional actress and tailor for more than 20 years. I own a slow fashion design label since 2013 called Skin Onion. Both careers grew together since I was very young (literally since I was a child) and complement each other very well since they allow me to be creative between each one.
What inspires you?
Nature is at the forefront of anything I do. Be it human nature and its contradictions or working with natural textiles and materials for my designs. I strive for honesty and integrity on all endeavors.
What does community mean to you?
Community is my salvation. It is my constant source of new information, confirmation, experimentation, and support. It is always very much part of my work. I will listen to opinions, feedback and general interests. It is my everlasting source of knowledge. Ha!
Favorite film
Bah. Hard... I would have to say "What about Bob?" ... It has been one of my most endearing childhood memories and still is an inside joke in my family. Anyone entering the clan has to watch it at some point to get what we are talking about.
Favorite song
Currently listening on repeat Makeba by Jain... Although songs will mean different things in different times in my life. A constant source of inspiration will always be Phillip Glass.
Favorite place
Nature. Anywhere. To be present in the vastness of "God".
