His work can be experienced all over the globe: from Boston to Brooklyn, to Buenos Aires. Interviewed by Rahsaan Lucas of AFROTAINO.
Where are you from?
I am from Puerto Rico, a coastal town named Loiza.
Where are you now?
Now I live and work from Santurce, Puerto Rico.
What are the major themes of your works?
In my public art projects, I like to expose important people from the communities that usually don't get to be recognized. To create a sense of identity. My personal work is an exploration of myself and my place at the moment.
Was there a defining moment when you knew you were going to identify as an artist?
It's always been my pasión to do art. So I have never considered any other option.
Where does your inspiration to create come from?
I get inspired by everyday events and life. But it’s more about discipline for me than inspiration. I believe that inspiration follows the work. You just need to start.
What is next on your list of projects?
I am doing a big building in Tampa, experimenting with 3D mapping, and want to work more in sculptures.
What advice would you give to a young creative from the diaspora?
Set small goals. just listen to your heart. nobody but you knows how to express your feelings in a creative way. And explore, and be ready to embrace the accidents. That's where the magic is.
