AFROTAINO is proud to spotlight the highly anticipated short film music video for Cvgebird’s newest single, ‘FRIDA TRAP’. Shot & filmed in various locations in the barrio of North Philly, the video pays artistic homage to legendary Mexican painter & artist Frida Kahlo.

Cvgebird (pronounced Cagebird) grew up on the East Coast from the golden era of the 90’s Hip-Hop and Soul. A child of the diaspora of Puerto Rican, Cuban and Brazilian descent, she was raised by a father who was a DJ & Latin percussionist, and a dancer mother, Cvgebird’s house was always stirring with different colorful- blends of music.

From freestyle ciphers and late-night venues to touring with Lauryn Hill & Pras Michel (of The Fugees) and appearing on the singing competition series, The Voice, she has unearthed her artistic identity and is ready to soar.

With a sound, she calls ‘Acoustic Trap Soul’, Cvgebird channels her creative energies into an organic yet authentically ‘street’ vibe, and often utilizes performance activism to advocate for social justice. According to her artistic statement, “Existing in a culture that tries to put us in cages of conformity, Cvgebird's music empowers listeners to break free and fly with open wings.”
