SAVE THE DATE: THURSDAY AUGUST 23rd - AfroTaino Productions & present Balún + Mons Vi + Grandchildren (duo) - live in concert. The Puerto Rico/Brooklyn-based classically-trained indie act brings their ‘dreambow’ (shoegazer dream pop meets reggaeton/dembow) sound back to #Philly! #afrotainosummer2018
Balún self-identify as transnational. The quartet that broke out of the San Juan indie scene a decade ago has since undergone a formational odyssey through the industry, academia, and the stateside Puerto Rican experience. Balún's long awaited sophomore album Prisma Tropical focuses an incredibly wide field of genres and influences into a revelatory sound that evokes both of the band's homes and the distance between them.
Based in Brooklyn by way of Miami, Mons Vi combines an electronic-influenced, lo-fi aesthetic with incisive lyrics – thriving in emotionally-charged territory rarely ventured to in the world of indie pop. In late 2015, Matthew Hershoff recorded “Stay,” in his Brooklyn bedroom after hearing it in a dream. He then asked Adrianne Gonzalez, his friend and fellow Miami-transplant, to sing on the track with him, and Mons Vi was born. Joined by Michael Cohen on drums and Alex Faron on bass, Mons Vi is a group of childhood friends making music for the digital age.
Grandchildren(duo) is a band from Philadelphia whose multi-instrumentalist members trade performance roles often. Aleks Martray, Russell Brodie, Roman Salcic, John Vogel, Tristan Palazzolo, Adam Katz.
