A quick word from AfroTaino Partner, Rahsaan Lucas: Buenos Dias, folks. I’m getting it in, doing it on wax a couple Saturdays from today. It’s happening over at @brewerytownbeats - brought to everyone by the #vinyltap215 crew. I’ve only been a couple times, but it’s evident that it’s more than just DJs playing records. There’s a open, curious energy that has strangers becoming friends, conversations bubble & rise in laughter, and there’s a warm sense of relief wafting in the air, breathing in the mix of record bin dust & good conversation. This is the record store experience I grew up with. Those long hours of crate-diggings put in at stores like Armand’s (reading terminal market/filbert to chestnut days), Sound of Market, Funk-o-Mart, Third st Jazz, Rue’s...were gatherings that fostered a community where vinyl enthusiasts watched, listened, learned, shared with folks they’d never meet anywhere else. (Unless you hung out at the same clubs or parties, or took the same bus/train stations...) All that said, I look forward to playing a variety of songs I love. Come rock with me on Saturday March 3rd. Salud!
