The ethereal warmth of Helado Negro's crooning touches our emotions like a subconscious love letter. Using electronic experimental rhythms and guitar, his music is passionate, moody, and affects listeners like the moon's gravitational pull on an ocean tide. His previously-released single, "Young, Latin & Proud" became synonymous with 21st century resistance, with a helpful hand from a successful merchandising campaign. For scores of Latinxs, the t-shirt is a badge of honor. His live shows are unique and eye-catching, with slow-throbbing lightbulbs & tinsel monsters, and of course, Helado Negro's twilight-friendly melodies. Joining him on tour is the candy-coated party bump sound of Cuco, a newcomer to the touring circuit, but nonetheless a very popular, fast-rising vocalist whose sing-song rapping style strikes a happy chord amongst his younger bilingual audiences. Like a Mexican-American version of Kid Cudi, Cuco gets you raising your red cups in the air. But the secret sauce to the show is the special guest appearance of Toronto-based, Colombia-born indigenous DIY-digitalist & multidisciplinary artist & vocalist, Lido Pimienta. Her vocal delivery is somewhere between the wail of a rarely seen tropical rainforest goddess & a far-off matriarchal ancestral chant. With sparse, minimalist percussion & Afro-futurist rhythms, Lido is a game-changer in all forms of traditional concert experiences. She calls for all femmes to take space upfront (sometimes onstage with her), celebrates her brown skin & curves, and challenges Western misogynist traditions with every breath. AfroTaino Productions is very proud to co-present this show to the region. Tickets $13 + fees @ www.thefillmorephilly.com.
